Latvian airline airBaltic announced on June 14 that starting from late October it will launch flights from Rīga to Marrakesh in Morocco.

Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic said: “We are excited to announce our first ever scheduled route to Africa. As the leading airline in the Baltics, we continue to build our network, adding more exciting leisure destinations also for the winter season.”

However, airBaltic is not a complete stranger to the African continent, having previously operated charter flights to Hurghada in Egypt.

Flights between Rīga and Marrakesh will be operated by the Airbus A220-300 aircraft and are scheduled to take 5 hours and 30 minutes.

airBaltic is a joint stock company that was established in 1995. Its primary shareholder is the Latvian state, which holds 97.03% of the stock, while the rest of the shareholders hold 2.97%.
