There is a plan to launch flights from Rīga to China this fall, Ilona Līce, CEO of Riga International Airport, said in an interview with LNT commercial TV channel May 18.

“We are working to attract distant destinations. Work on the China direction is going fast, and my prediction is that we will be able to please travelers already in the fall,” the head of the airport said.

The head of Riga International Airport did not reveal the Chinese city to which the flights from Riga are being planned, saying that she could not yet disclose such information.

Līce noted that Riga International Airport plans to receive around 6.5 million air passengers this year.

She also said that the airport had achieved a record-high number of destinations this summer season as passengers can now fly to 100 destinations from the Latvian capital.

Riga International Airport is the largest air traffic hub in the Baltic states. In 2017, the Riga airport served over six million passengers or 45 percent of the total number of air passengers in the three Baltic states
