No fatalities registered in Latvia on European Day Without a Road Death

No fatalities were registered in Latvia on the European Day Without a Road Death on September 26, however, several people suffered injuries in traffic accidents, the State Police told LETA.

In total, 125 traffic accidents were registered in Latvia yesterday, in which 12 people were injured, including five cyclists and two pedestrians.

A total of 899 fines were issued yesterday, which is significantly more than usual. 426 drivers were fined for speeding, most of which were in Vidzeme - 163. In addition, many drivers were fined for using a mobile phone while driving and for not buckling up.

Also on Thursday, the police detained eight drivers who were driving under the influence.

The objective of the European Day Without A Road Death or Project EDWARD is that no one should die on the roads of Europe on Thursday 26 September.
