Construction of the “Rail Baltica” Riga Central hub started on Monday, the company Bererix told Latvian Television November 23.

Bererix has started construction for one of the most important stages of the Rail Baltica project – the Central hub of Riga, which includes the redevelopment of the Riga railway station complex, the construction of the railway bridge over Daugava, the construction of European track gauge, the removal of embankments, as well as the construction of the adjacent infrastructure.

“The beginning of the construction of “Rail Baltica” in Riga is a turning point throughout the history of European Union integration. A modern railway network will bring us all together soon. “Rail Baltica” is one of the priorities of the European Union, a critical infrastructure project for Europe. This is important for the well-being of residents, business opportunities, start-ups and the economy,” said Adina-Ioana Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport.

The first works of the “Rail Baltica” Riga Central hub will take place in the area between the Riga Central Railway Station and the Ministry of Transport building, and along the railway line between Maskavas and Lāčplēša Street.

Rīga residents and guests can find information about changes to traffic and pedestrian movement organization on Eiropas Dzelzceļa Līnijas website interactive map.
