Rail Baltica begins construction on Lāčplēša Street

Take note – story published 2 years ago

The Rail Baltica project has reached a new stage, and Thursday, September 2, the construction of the first railway overpass over Lāčplēša Street will be launched.

The construction of the overpass will mark the beginning of the construction of a major “Rail Baltica” Central hub in the urban environment, which will start on Lāčplēša Street, continue on Dzirnavu Street and move towards the Riga Central Railway Station and further to Daugava.

Kaspars Vingris, Chairman of the project implementer European Railway Lines, explained the changes that will take place in the urban environment:

"The car section of Lāčplēša Street will be wider with two bands in each direction, a modern, wide bicycle lane and a well-organized pedestrian flow. This means that it will allow the city to continue developing this street in the future. Therefore, we are dealing with future traffic organization issues in cooperation with the Riga Council. Works are already in place at street level and will continue at the overpass level."

Construction progress can be followed on website www.edzl.lv, while information about traffic changes and other practical information can be found both on www.edzl.lv and the Rail Baltica global project official website railbaltica.org.
