Rail Baltica launches electrification procurement process

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Rail Baltica, the 6-billion-euro high speed rail infrastructure project, has launched a procurement for electrification engineering services, the joint venture RB Rail announced April 16.

The company said it has "launched a tender to select an engineering service provider for the Rail Baltica energy subsystem development, procurement and deployment supervision. Provision of the energy subsystem engineering services is a long-term partnership, which will cover the period until the beginning of train operation on Rail Baltica corridor," (sic) the company said.

The Rail Baltica energy subsystem includes all required components to ensure the traction
of trains such including high voltage feeding lines, traction substations (adapting voltage to train traction features) an overhead catenary system and an electrification control command system.

The tender is divided into two phases. During the first phase, engineering companies are requested to perform necessary technical studies such as advanced software simulation of the energy subsystem; to propose technical architecture of the energy subsystem and to draft the technical specification for the deployment contracts.

During the second phase, the company will be required to supervise the implementation of the design and construction works.

The proposal submission deadline for the tender is 11 May, 2020 and more information is available at the project website

RB Rail AS is a multinational joint venture of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania established to coordinate the implementation of the Rail Baltica project. Rail Baltica is a double track, European standard 1,435 mm gauge electrified railway for passenger and freight transport to be built from Tallinn to the Lithuanian-Polish border. The overall length of the railway will be 870 kilometers. The total cost of Rail Baltica in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is estimated at around €6 billion with the first trains due to start rolling in 2025.
