Constuction work has begun on railways for Rail Baltica Rīga Central Station hub, project implementer Eiropas Dzelzceļa Līnijas said February 3.

In the first phase of the construction work of the railway project Rail Baltica, the construction of railway engineering systems and urban engineering networks is carried out. Last week, the construction works of the Rīga Central hub have been launched on train tracks. Alarm systems, cables and switches to platforms and tracks are being replaced.

By the beginning of February, the construction of the new water pipeline and the rebuilding of the heat track on Timoteja Street were carried out. Currently, railway engineering systems and urban engineering networks are being rebuilt.

In order to carry out these works, as well as to ensure the continuity of railway operation, the project construction company Bererix works in close cooperation with Latvian Railways. Every week, “traffic windows” on certain tracks are planned, during which the necessary works take place without disrupting the operation of the railway.

Working in a pandemic is organized in 12-person teams, or “bubbles”, to be able to react quickly and, if necessary, to prevent the virus from spreading outside one “bubble” so as to ensure the safe and continuous functioning of the building site.

In total, an average of 70-80 different construction work specialists are employed daily on the construction site.
