At a time when thaw replaces frost and vice-versa frequently, holes are rapidly forming on the streets of Riga. Residents are invited to report to the Traffic Management Center on hazardous holes in Rīga streets, the Rīga City Council said on December 29.

Holes of a size greater than 0.1 square meters and a depth above five centimeters shall be considered to be dangerous. The holes are most rapidly formed in street sections where defects and cracks are present.

This winter season, 869 square meters of this kind of hole were eliminated by cold asphalt encasing technology, which is suitable for weather conditions when the air temperature is below zero.

In spring, when the average daily temperature is above 5 degrees, the city will begin a wider repair of the holes with conventional technologies.

The public is asked to report dangerous holes on the streets of Riga to the City Council's Traffic Control Center by phone 80003600, e-mail [email protected] or on the Waze app.
