Rīga International Airport and Liepāja International Airport have serviced a total of 3.563 million passengers in the first five months of the year, which was 9.6 percent more when compared to the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Agency.

In the first six months of the year, both Rīga and Liepāja airports serviced a total of 43,155 flights, which is 7.6 percent more when compared to the same period last year. In the first six months of 2018, the two airports serviced 3.251 million passengers and handled 40,117 flights.

Liepāja Airport has seen a 45 percent increase in passenger volumes when compared to the first six months of last year - from 4,205 to 6,104 passengers. This was mostly due to airBaltic increasing its flight frequency between Rīga and Liepāja from three to five flights per week.

At the same time, Liepāja Airport has seen a substantial rise in the number of flights handled - from 100 in the first six months of last year, to 1,605 this year, which was mostly due to airBaltic setting up its Pilot Academy in Liepāja and all the test flights that have been made during this period.

Meanwhile, in the first six months of the year, Rīga Airport serviced 3.557 million passengers, compared to 3.247 million passengers last year. At the same time, the airport handled 41,550 flights compared to 40,017 flights during the first six months of 2018.
