Following a joint meeting of the State Construction Control Bureau and the Rīga City Council's Transport Department May 8, a decision was made to launch reinforcement of Augusta Deglava Bridge's beams, as Una Ahuna-Ozola from the Rīga  City Council's Transport Department told LETA.

During the meeting, the Construction Control Bureau approved the project and starting preparatory work for reinforcing the bridge's beams.

Deglava Bridge's beams are to be reinforced by May 20, after which the Construction Control Bureau will repeatedly inspect the bridge and make a decision on fully reopening it to traffic.

In the meantime, residents have been posting photographs on social networks which show that the recently-restored handrails of Deglava Bridge are in very poor shape and many sections of the handrails have started to crumble. According to Ahuna-Ozola, the handrails will be examined by experts, based on the opinion of which construction crews repairing the bridge will be ordered to repair them.

As reported, Deglava Bridge was closed to traffic on the morning of April 25, which caused major traffic jams in several Riga neighborhoods.

The bridge was partly reopened to public transport on May 4.
