LVC has signed an agreement with SIA Via for the installation of acoustic stripes or ribbons on the Bauska highway (A7) in the section from the Riga bypass A5 (Salaspils – Babīte) to Bauska (20.60-84.50 km) for a contract price of 203,000 euros (with VAT).
A procurement process has also been announced for another installation on the Valmiera highway (A3) in the section from Ragana to Valmiera, for which tenders have been received and evaluation is underway. On both of these roads, rumble strips will be installed from the 75 million euros of additional funding provided from the state budget.
When the vehicle crosses a lane with rumble strips installed, vibrations and noise are generated, warning the driver not to enter the opposite lane. The ribbon strip is installed approximately 10 mm deep in the road center line before the road is resurfaced.
This year, as part of the renewal of the strip coverage on the main roads, the following have been installed:
- on the Tallinn highway (A1) in the section of the Saulkrasti bypass;
- on Vidzeme highway (A2) in two sections from Rauna to Launkalne and further to the intersection with Smiltene – Gulbene road (P27);
- on the road Russian border (Grebneva) –Rēzekne – Daugavpils – Lithuanian border (Medumi) (A13) in the section from Kārsava to Bērzgale intersection.
