The tender was originally announced on April 30 with the deadline set on May 2 but afterwards the deadline was extended twice - first till May 14 due to technical problems and then till May 28 due to the interest of potential bidders in the details.
Purchase of 12 low-deck trams is one of the phases in the implementation of a project to launch a new tram line in the Skanste area of the Latvian capital.
The project includes construction of a 3.6 kilometers long new tram line in the Skanste area and renovation of the infrastructure of some of the existing tram lines, arrangements for power supply, purchase of 12 new low-deck trams, development of a traffic management system as well as renovation of certain streets and re-arrangement of utility lines.
The total eligible cost of the project is €97.4 million, of which up to €70 million will come from the Cohesion Fund. Rīgas Satiksme will contribute €27.4 million to the project.
