"The offer of Spanish company IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture was chosen as the most economically advantageous amounting to EUR 11 363 907. The contract with the winner will be signed after completion of all necessary procedures," RB Rail said in a statement.
This high-speed railway section is 48 km long and, according to the preliminary design, will
include 32 viaducts and pedestrian crossings, including a Tallinn–Rapla highway viaduct
over the railway, as well as four animal passages (ecoducts).
It is the second major contract IDOM has secured in recent weeks. As previously reported by LSM, on May 10 it was handed the contract for design work on a stretch of Rail Baltica in the Latvian capital, on that occasion alongside another Spanish company, INECO.
In February IDOM won the first mainline tender, too, for another stretch of line in Estonia. Along with the new contract it means IDOM will be responsible for design work all the way from Parnu in the south of Estonia to Tallinn in the north, and would seem to signal that its chances of securing further contracts are also high.
For Estonia, the detailed technical design procurement procedures are underway for the
entire line from the Latvian/Estonian border to Tallinn and first design contract was signed
in March. In Latvia, two out of four design procurements have been launched around Riga.
Additionally, in June two more design tenders will be launched for Latvia in the sections
towards the border of Latvia with Estonia and Lithuania. As for Lithuania, two sections out
of four, spanning from Kaunas to the Lithuanian/Latvian border are being procured. In
April, the first design contract was signed for a section from Kaunas to Ramygala - with IDOM also the winner on that occasion.
