Traffic changes near Rīga airport due to Rail Baltica construction

Take note – story published 1 year ago

As the construction work of the Rail Baltica railway station and related infrastructure is continuing at the Rīga International Airport, as of Monday, September 5, traffic organization is changed near the airport, according to the construction company B.S.L. Infra.

On the crossing of Ziemeļu Street and P133, one lane is closed. Access to the airport will be ensured, but drivers must count on slower traffic.

"In the “Rail Baltica” project near the airport, we are gradually approaching the moment when we can switch traffic from the existing P133 road, which has so far led drivers to the airport, to the new road around the future railway station building. New traffic restrictions are needed to allow builders to start adding the future L1 road to the ntersection of P133 and Ziemeļu Street,” said Maija Baltgalve, member of the executive committee of B.S.L. Infra.

In the future, at this intersection the traffic will be split in two separate roads going to and from the airport.

In order to minimize the impact of the construction work on traffic, works at the airport are carried out in stages.
