The prosecutor's office has decided on a fine and suspension of the yet-to-be-acquired driver's license for a woman who showed up to her driving exam drunk, the prosecutor's office said in a release on January 2.

In pre-trial criminal proceedings, it was found that a woman, under the influence of alcohol to the tune of more than 2.1 permilles, arrived in the Daugavpils section of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) on December 28, 2022, to take an examination for driving a passenger car. During the examination, the inspector of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate observed the possible presence of alcohol and interrupted the examination.

The accused woman fully agreed with the scope and legal qualifications of the criminal offense incited to her and agreed to the criminal proceedings.

The prosecutor took into account both the mitigating circumstances or the fact that the woman admitted her guilt in committing the criminal offense and expressed regret. The prosecutor imposed a sentence of 120 hours of community service and a ban to drive a vehicle for five years.

Since the vehicle the woman was driving was owned by someone else, confiscation was not applicable; therefore, the recovery of full or partial value of the car is due. In the case at hand, it was decided to recover EUR 10,000 from the accused.
