LSM tracked down two political commentators in the studios of LTV and asked them about the results and the likely shape of the next Latvian government.
Filips Rajevskis said the process of forming a government would be a war of attrition rather than a swift battle, and that it would require several parties to make significant concessions in order to team up. He also suggested the barnstorming antics of KPV LV might be rained in if the party was to transition from voluble opponent of the existing coalition to integral part of the next government.
Meanwhile Iveta Kažoka agreed that the government formation process would be extremely lengthy and a new government would likely not be in place until next year.
She also reflected on the possible causes of record-low voter turnout and speculated about possible shifts in voting patterns, with more research planned to probe the reasons why people are simply not voting in the numbers they used to.
