The editor of the magazine responsible for releasing an astounding series of transcripts of conversations between Latvia's so-called "oligarchs" said June 30 that the scandal could not be ignored.

Speaking to LSM on the sidelines of the Lampa conversation festival in Cesis, Nellija Locmele of the Ir news weekly said she had no doubt as to the authenticity of the recordings upon which the transcripts are based and accused one of those involved, Ventspils mayor Aivars Lembergs of out-and-out lying about their veracity.
