Дождь will be registered in Latvia as of June 9. Ivars Āboliņš said that talks on TV broadcasting from Latvia lasted about three months.
Russia's independent television channel Дождь temporarily ceased operations in early March. The Director-General of the television channel, Natalia Sindeyeva, explained this decision with the adoption of the Law on “false news” by the Russian State Council. With the channel's suspension, its chief editor and several editorial staff abandoned Russia.
After Russia introduced full censorship on the independent media, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed Latvia's readiness to receive the persecuted Russian journalists and to help them as much as possible, for example, the newspaper Novaya Gazeta is already issued in Latvia.
