New Latvian public media board confirmed

On Wednesday, November 13, the Public Electronic Mass Media Council (SEPLP) approved the five-year term of office of the Board of the merged Latvian Public Service Media (LSM).

Baiba Zūzena was confirmed as Chairperson of the Board, while Ieva Aile, Inese Tanne, Ilze Ogle, and Ingemārs Vekteris were confirmed as Board members.

Aile will be responsible for program and service development, Tanne for financial management, Ogle for human resources management, and Vekteris for technology management.

The LSM Board has been elected for a five-year term and will start its work at the beginning of January 2025, when the new State JSC "Latvijas Sabiedriskais medijs" will be registered.

Zūzena is the former CEO and Board Member of All Media Latvia, Head of the consulting company Komercizglītības centrs and Deputy Chair of the Supervisory Board of SIA Getliņi EKO.

Aile is a current member of the Board for Programs and Services of State JSC "Latvijas Radio".

Tanne is currently the CFO of the consultancy and digital services company SIA Civitta Latvija.

Ogle is Strategic HR Manager at AB City, a healthcare products and services company.

Vekteris is a long-standing manager of Vidzeme TV and the founder of the ReTV network of regional TV stations, and the Executive Director of the Latvian Broadcasting Association.

The competition for the future LSM board members had 78 candidates and was held in three rounds. The SEPLP selected the board of the single public service broadcaster on October 30. The nominated candidates met with public service media staff and trade unions before being confirmed in office.

During the meetings with Latvian Television staff, Ivars Šulcs, initially nominated as the Board's technology member, was caught in the crossfire. After this meeting, he decided to withdraw his candidacy. In his place, SEPLP nominated Ingemārs Vekteris, Executive Director of the Latvian Broadcasting Association.
