Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed on Twitter in both Latvian and French that the Latvian citizen who is unnamed but known to be a woman, had been flown out on a French government plane and praised it as "a fine example of European solidarity".

France has operated several flights from China to evacuate not only its own citizens, but citizens of other mainly European countries, too.
In Paris, all passengers on a special flight will be quarantined after disembarkation, where they will be observed. The Latvian citizen will be allowed to return to Rīga after 14 days if no signs of coronavirus infection are observed.
On January 29 the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs said: "France has taken the initiative to activate the European coordination mechanisms that exist for this type of situation. In a spirit of European solidarity, the goal is to offer European countries the opportunity to enable, to the extent possible, those citizens wishing to do so to take advantage of the flights that France is providing. Arrangements for this complex operation, for which planning is underway, will fully comply with public health recommendations."
