An account of the meeting released by the Latvian Foreign Ministry said Rinkēvičs "stressed the need to continue the exchange of high-level visits" while promoting the possibilities for economic and logistics cooperation.Promotion of cooperation in the economy was noted in particular the potential of information and communication technologies, as well as transport and logistics.
Akbar noted the growing numbers of Indian students coming to Latvia to pursue their education, the statement said, without quoting him directly. There were 750 Indian students at Latvian higher education institutions at the start of the current academic year.
Both ministers condemned international terrorism, noting in particular the Manchester attack of May 22.
The visit did not include any press conferences, despite Akbar's background as a former journalist and writer.
After the meeting an agreement was signed on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports.
During his visit, which continues May 24 Akbar will also be meeting with President Vejonis and opening a Latvian-Indian business forum at which he is scheduled to make a five-minute address.
