Latvian nationals urged to leave Belarus immediately

Latvia's Ministery of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said February 27 that all Latvian nationals currently in Belarus should leave that country and return home as soon as possible.

"In view of the involvement of Belarus in Russia’s full-scale military action against Ukraine, an increased activity of Russian and Belarusian troops in the territory of Belarus, considerable security risks, and an unpredictable development of the security situation in the near future, we call on Latvian nationals currently present in Belarus to leave the country," the MFA said.

"Our ability to provide consular assistance to Latvian nationals in Belarus is limited. Latvian nationals residing in Belarus are urged to bear in mind that departure from Belarus has been made difficult. We call for exercising precaution in public places with large numbers of people and for avoiding mass events."

The work of the Embassy of Latvia in Minsk has been suspended indefinitely. Consular assistance and consular services at the Embassy in Minsk are not being provided. If you are in an emergency situation, immediately contact the Consulate of Latvia in Vitebsk (phone +375 212 614 482; e-mail: [email protected]), or the consular officer on-call around the clock at the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by phone: +371 26337711 or e-mail: [email protected]

Belarus has become a launch-pad for attacks on Ukraine as a result of the dictator Lukashenko's subservience to Vladimir Putin.
