The Latvian parliament on December 13 adopted a declaration condemning the aggressive actions of Russia in the Sea of Azov and the Kerch strait.

The declaration, signed by 78 MPs with the exception of about half of the MPs belonging to the Harmony faction, voices support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and asks Russia to immediately free Ukrainian ships and release the 24 Ukrainian sailors taken to Moscow following the clashes.

It also asks the United Nations, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe to offer immediate reaction to the November 25 incident in the Kerch strait, voicing worry that the incident could turn into a large-scale military conflict.

In addition, the Saeima urges Russia to cease its provocative actions, ensure free naval movement in the Sea of Azov and the Kerch strait, as well as compensate Ukraine for the damages caused by Russian military action.
