16 parties will contest Saeima elections

With the deadline having passed August 7 to submit candidates to participate in the 13th Saeima elections on October 6th, it has been established that 16 parties will be in the running.

The parties who have submitted candidate lists are (in the order in which they were submitted):

Jaunā konservatīvā partija (New conservative party)
Rīcības partija (Action party)
Latvijas Reģionu Apvienība (Latvia's Regional Alliance)
Attīstībai/Par! (For development/For!)
Jaunā VIENOTĪBA (New UNITY)
Zaļo un Zemnieku savienība (Greens and Farmers Union)
No sirds Latvijai (For Latvia from the heart)
"PROGRESĪVIE" ("PROGRESSIVES")
"Saskaņa" sociāldemokrātiskā partija ("Harmony" socialdemocratic party)
"Latvijas Krievu savienība" (Latvijas Russian union)
Nacionālā apvienība "Visu Latvijai!"-"Tēvzemei un Brīvībai/LNNK" (National alliance "all for Latvia!" - "For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK")
Politiskā partija "KPV LV" (Political party "KPV LV")
"Latviešu Nacionālisti"("Latvian Nationalists")
"LSDSP/KDS/GKL"
"Latvijas centriskā partija" ("Latvia's centrist party")
Par Alternatīvu (For an Alternative)

On Friday August 10 lots will be drawn to determine what number each party will have on the ballot paper - a number that will also feature prominently on their election campaign materials.

Of 1470 candidates in total, more than two thirds (68.3%) are men and 31.7% women. The average age of candidates is 46 years with the youngest candidate 21 years of age and the oldest 88 years of age.
