Starting Saturday, July 23, to September 9, voters who are abroad during the 14th Saeima elections on October 1, can apply for a postal vote. The voting and applying can be done at 21 Latvian diplomatic and consular missions, where postal voting stations have been set up, the Central Election Commission (CVK) said July 22.

Voters abroad will be able to apply by mail, e-mail, or face-to-face in the embassies of the Republic of Latvia in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Ireland, Japan, Canada, Kazakhstan, South Korea, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Finland, Spain, Turkey, Germany, and Sweden, and the consulate in Vitebsk, Belarus.

When applying for a postal vote, an application must be made in which the voter's name, surname, personal identity number, e-mail address or official e-address to which voting material is sought must be indicated. The sample of the application shall be available on the home page of the CVK.   It is no longer necessary to present a passport or personal identity card, because the electronic voter registry will be used for the first time in these Saeima elections.

As of August 27, when the voter registry launches, it will also be possible to apply for the postal vote on the website of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs or on the portal “Latvija.lv”.

Polling stations abroad are included in the Rīga constituency, which means that voters abroad will be able to vote on the lists of parliamentary candidates announced in Rīga.
