Lots drawn in Latvia for party numbers in May European elections

Take note – story published 5 years ago

Latvia's Central Electoral Commission (CVK) on March 26 carried out its task of drawing lots to determine which parties will have which numbers on the ballot papers for the May 25 European Parliament elections.

The coveted number 1 position went to the Latvian Russian Union, and lucky number 7 will be assigned to the controversial "New Harmony" (Jauna Saskaņa, not to be confused with the longer-established Harmony/Saskaņa). In contrast, the "Awakening" party will be hoping they can shake off the hoodoo of being saddled with number 13.

The full list of 16 parties will be as follows:

1. Latvian Russian Union
2. Latvian Nationalists
3. Latvian Regional Alliance
4. Greens and Farmers Union
5. KPV LV
6. Progressives
7. New Harmony
8. New Conservatives
9. Development/For!
10. Harmony
11. National Alliance
12. Action party
13. Awakening
14. Center party
15. Latvian Socialdemocratic Workers Party
16. New Unity
