"First of all, in public places [today and tomorrow], there can be no campaigning materials, namely posters or campaigning on road vehicles or trailers. Of course, there is a ban on campaigning on television, radio, as well as in press editions. [Campaigning on] social networks is allowed if it is done free of charge. Namely, anyone can make an entry on the social network in their own account, expressing their views, even call to vote for someone. The only requirement is not to highlight it as a paid publication,” explained Karīna Poļanska, chief executive of the KNAB Political Organizations Violations Investigation Division.
Potential violations of the election campaign should be reported to the KNAB or the law enforcement. Until now, the KNAB has launched eight administrative proceedings in relation to violations of the election campaign.
Election fever on Friday will likely reach a climax with Latvian Television's traditional debate between party leaders at 20:50, which gives them a last chance to impress or depress voters. It's usually a very interesting affair and a strong performance gives a party a confidence boost on election day itself. The debate will be available to watch live online.
The parliamentary elections will take place on Saturday, October 1 between 7:00 to 20:00. If you cannot make it on that day, it is still possible to cast the ballot early on Friday from 10:00 to 16:00 at 66 polling stations throughout Latvia. A list of these stations is available on the Central Election Commission's website.
There are 19 lists of candidates registered for Saeima elections, with 1,829 candidates.
