Former Education Minister plans political comeback

Former Minister of Education and Science Anita Muižniece has joined the party "Latvijas Attīstībai" (For Latvia's Development, LA) and plans to run in the Riga City Council elections next year, Muižniece confirmed to the LETA news agency.

From the summer of 2021 to the end of 2022, Muižniece was the Minister of Education and Science for the New Conservative Party in the government led by Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity).

However, after a strong showing in the 2018 Saeima elections the now slightly rebranded "Conservatives" party (they later reverted to 'New Conservatives' again) failed to win a single seat in the 2022 Saeima elections and Muižniece left the party.

Muižniece is currently the director of the private art school "Kultūras Patnis".

Municipal elections will be held in June next year.
