Valka mayor dismissed over confidence vote

Take note – story published 1 year and 4 months ago

A majority of deputies of the Valka municipality council voted to dismiss Vents Armands Krauklis (Vidzeme Party) from the office of the mayor on Thursday, May 18.

Viesturs Zariņš (New Unity/Latvian Farmers Union) said that Krauklis had lost the trust of the opposition members of the City Council due to various alleged offenses, the style of management, and incomprehensible, selfish decisions. Krauklis referred to Zariņš' words as 'half truths in a pile of lies'.

Krauklis said that some Members had one objective since the beginning of this parliamentary term – to overthrow him. “It is not about professionalism or the style of work, but it is a desire to gain management for themselves,” the mayor commented on the opposition's intention.

Latvian Television observed on Thursday that people were protesting against Krauklis' dismissal.
