Gita Mūrniece was nominated for the post of mayor at Thursday's meeting, but withdrew. Dainis Aļeksējevs was nominated and also withdrew.
Harju was also nominated for the post, but she also withdrew.
She said she would be willing to "perform the duties as acting president of the council for one month, as also provided for in the legislation".
The Smiltene municipality mayor Edgars Avotiņš stepped down at the end of July.
