Sprūde said that her decision has been based on KPV LV’s stance against presidential candidate Didzis Šmits and also on the party’s decision not to nominate Šmits for the parliamentary inquiry committee on the mandatory procurement component (MPC) system.
“He [Šmits] devoted much time to development of the committee, but now it seems that Ieva Krapāne will be nominated for working in the committee,” said Sprūde.
Sprūde said that she will continue work in the parliamentary committees and will work as an independent lawmaker.
Liepiņa also announced on Wednesday that she will leave the party and the faction. Her decision is related with the latest development in the factions, and the recent faction’s vote on the presidential candidates, she said.
Initially 16 lawmakers were elected to the parliament from the list of KPV LV, but later Aldis Gobzems was expelled from the faction.
In early June, the Saeima will have to decide whether to allow criminal prosecution of Saeima member Atis Zakatistovs (KPV LV). If a criminal prosecution is launched against him, he may no longer attend Saeima meetings.
KPV LV has in effect split into two warring factions – the entire party is nominally part of the coalition but just 11 of its 16 MPs voted to instate the current government.
