Environment Minister Juris Pūce (Development/For!) has sent two letters on February 28 demanding Rīga mayor Nils Ušakovs (Harmony) an explanation over the state of financial affairs at the Rīgas satiksme municipal transport company.

That's what Pūce's adviser Agnese Vārpiņa told the press.

"The publicly available info over the state of financial affairs at Rīgas satiksme increases worry about the financial stability of the Rīga Municipality," Pūce said.

Pūce asks Ušakovs to explain the situation seeing as Rīga's budget makes up the bulk of the total municipal budgets. He is asked to map out the steps the municipality is to make to stabilize the situation at the company.

Ušakovs has been asked to provide a detailed overview of the current state of affairs at Rīgas satiksme along with proposals to stabilize the finances at the company.

Another letter asks Rīga mayor to explain the info on the ongoing corruption probe at the company and to provide information on proposed tariffs to the ministry before adopting any. The tariffs are to be audited by an independent auditor.
