Foreign Ministry repeats call for Latvians to leave Russia

Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs said on Twitter on September 28 that Latvians should leave Russia urgently and should not visit the country, as a repeated call from Foreign Ministry.

"This is a repeated and insistent call due to the escalation of the international situation," said Rinkēvičs.

As indicated on the Foreign Ministry's website, in relation to Russian aggression against Ukraine and other countries, the National Security Service (VDD) warns Latvian nationals about intelligence risks when crossing the Russian or Belarusian border, and asks anyone who must cross the border of those countries to be careful and to turn to VDD if there are unusual increased inspections and inquiries during the border crossing.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already urged Latvian citizens not to go to Russia and to leave the country if they are present.
