Former Rail Baltic head and Ieva Ilvesa to run for seat in European Parliament

Baiba Rubesa, former head of the Rail Baltica joint venture in Latvia, as well as diplomat and cyber security expert Ieva Ilvesa will run for a seat in the European Parliament from the Development/For! ticket, according to LTV.

Sources told LTV Rubesa will appear second on the ticket after politics expert Ivars Ijabs, while Ilvesa will appear as the third ticket.

It is expected that on February 23 a party conference will introduce the candidates and that former Estonian president Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the husband of Ieva Ilvesa, is to participate too.

An experienced civil servant, Ieva Ilvesa oversaw the establishment of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in Rīga.

From October 2015 to September 2018, Baiba Rubesa was the head of a company founded by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to implement the 6-billion-euro Rail Baltica train link.
