Government accepts some Saeima budget proposals

Take note – story published 9 years ago

The Cabinet of Ministers at Monday’s extraordinary session considered the package of budgetary amendments and bills proposed by Saeima members at last week’s plenary, supporting about €1m-worth of the parliament’s changes, however rejecting others deemed too expensive in the multiple millions of euros.

According to Finance Minister Jānis Reirs (Unity), “one or two” opposition proposals also made it to Cabinet approval. Almost all of the bills specified emergency budget funding as the primary source for their proposals.

On December 11 the Saeima gave its support in principle to the government’s proposed budget of “social and national security,” however preparing more than 500 proposals for amendments to it.

The ruling coalition parties have expressed hope that the final reading of the budget could be passed on December 18.
