National Alliance, New Unity name future minister candidates

The National Alliance and New Unity parties have decided on their future Minister candidates, the parties said December 5.

The first to announce their ministerial candidates was National Alliance. According to the proposal of the Prime Minister's nominee, Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity), responsibility for economic, defense, cultural, and transport areas would be entrusted to NA.

The management of the Ministry of Economics is planned to be entrusted to the current Economics Minister Ilze Indriksone.

For the post of Minister of Culture, the party also directs the current Minister, Nauris Puntulis.

The National Alliance has nominated former Saeima Speaker Ināra Mūrniece for the post of Minister of Defense. She had worked for a long time at the National Security Council, as well as the National Security Committee.

The Transport Minister candidate will be former Economics Minister Jānis Vitenbergs, who has won the highest support of voters in Zemgale's constituency. Alongside him, parliamentary secretary Kaspars Gerhards will work under the leadership of the ministry, who already has experience in the management of the Ministry of Transport.

New Unity came out with their candidates a few hours later. As the party with the most votes in the 14th Saeima elections, New Unity has the most ministerial seats: Minister for Finance, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Education and Science, Climate and Energy, and Welfare.

For the position of Finance Minister, the party has chosen Arvils Ašeradens.

As Foreign Minister, the current Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs has been chosen. 

For the Justice Minister's seat, Inese Lībiņa-Egnere will be directed, whereas for the Minister for Education and Science – Anda Čakša. 

The newly established Ministry for Climate and Energy would be chaired by Raimonds Čudars, whereas the Welfare Ministry – by Evika Siliņa.
