The section of Antonijas Street in Rīga on which the Russian Embassy is located will be renamed 'Ukrainian Independence Street', the LETA newswire reported March 4.

The decision has been made by the Rīga City Council coalition parties - For/Progressives, New Unity, National Alliance, Latvia's Association of Regions, Conservatives and For Latvia's Development.

The decision was made to voice support for Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and aspirations towards European integration, as well as to voice support for Ukraine's heroic fight against Russia's cowardly attack.

A similar decision was made this week by Lithuanian capital Vilnius, renaming the street address of the Russian Embassy to 'Ukrainian Heroes Street'.

"Russian Embassy, change you business cards: the street of Ukrainian heroes, No 2. (…) The business card of every staff member of the Russian Embassy will now have to honor Ukrainian heroes. And every person writing a letter to the embassy will have to think about victims of Russian aggression, and Ukrainian heroes," Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Simasius said.
