The Prime Minister praised the vision expressed by Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts about a broad vaccination program against Covid-19 in order to obtain crowd immunity and to eliminate the restrictions imposed. He also noted that a centralized Council for vaccination is necessary, which should be involved in educating the public on the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Health Ministry's proposals will be heard by the government on Tuesday.
At the same time, the Prime Minister said that it would take time to achieve crowd immunity in Latvia and to return to “normal everyday life”, so it would be necessary to follow certain restrictive measures for a longer period of time.
He also pointed out that it is also a priority for the government to extend and simplify support mechanisms.
“Seeing what we have with the pandemic, and realizing that it will take us time to get the so-called crowd immunity in the country and to return fully to the everyday regime, it will be necessary to maintain some restrictions. Consequently, support mechanisms are a very important issue. We have a number of ministers working on them in a coordinated working group.
"So, on the one hand, we are working on increasing the pace of vaccination, on the other, my emphasis as head of government is on support mechanisms so that we can extend them and make them as simple and accessible as possible to our society,” said the Prime Minister.
