"I don't see how we can create a government without National Alliance and the Greens and Farmers Union. Unity should look [for the candidate] within their own ranks - look in the regions, in the European Parliament," said Straujuma.
She also said that about a third of Unity members are against naming Āboltiņa as a candidate to run the government.
The outgoing Prime Minister admitted that she had voted against Āboltiņa's candidacy. "I can publicly state that I voted against," she said, however without specifying why she voted the way she did.
She said that two people from Unity could become Prime Minister. Straujuma was reluctant to name them, though admitting that "one of them is a former minister" and that she'd name her candidacies to the party board.
So far Unity have named Solvita Āboltiņa as the only PM candidate, but they haven't officially nominated her yet.
Greens and Farmers Union have two possible candidate prime ministers - Agricultural Minister Jānis Dūklavs and MP Maris Kucinskis - though on Monday the party refused to name a candidate, despite president Raimonds Vējonis' calls on parties to name their candidates for the PM seat by the end of the year.
