Revenue Service gets new acting head

Take note – story published 7 years ago

On Tuesday Latvia's Cabinet of Ministers appointed Dace Pelēkā as the acting head of the State Revenue Service. Pelēkā previously held the post of vice director at the tax authority.

She will take the helm of the Revenue Service on June 27.

A tender has been announced to fill the vacant position of the Revenue Service's director.

Ināra Pētersone, the previous head of Latvia's State Revenue Service, resigned in late May, saying that the main reason for her resignation was a belief that despite lots of talk and countless policy documents, she felt her effort to actually reform public administration was futile.

Pētersone said that different parts of public administration are pursuing their own goals instead of working together for the good of society at large.

The next head of the service will face the task of reviving the reputation of an organization which is sometimes regarded as little more than a politically-influenced racket by many Latvians.
