Riga City Council's cats to be re-located to Harmony's offices

The Riga City Council's cats Kuzja and Muris will be re-located to the offices of Harmony's group at the Riga City Council, according to the LETA news agency.

New Riga Mayor Olegs Burovs (Honor to Serve Riga) previously said he's allergic to cats, and that the two felines will not be able to live in the mayor's offices anymore.

''The cats will be moved approximately 20 meters down the hallway to Harmony's offices. Kuzja has had no problems adapting to his new space, but Muris is a bit more sensitive,'' Riga City Council spokesman Uģis Vidauskis said.

Former Riga Mayor Nils Ušakovs (Harmony), who has been voted into the European Parliament, adopted Kuzja and Muris from a Riga animal shelter back in 2009 in what many people believed to be a publicity stunt ahead of the local government elections, but he claimed at the time that his goal was to motivate residents to adopt homeless pets.
