Šadurskis blasts New Conservatives over "blackmailing the government"

In an interview on Latvian Radio September 3, Unity board member Kārlis Šadurskis (New Unity) said that the New Conservative Party (JKP) is ''acting like a bunch of hooligans'' within the Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity) government, as they understand that they are absolutely necessary for the current government to stay together.

Šadurskis said that he understands the prime minister's cautious working style, because the work that has been started must continue to move forward.

The former European Parliament member said that Indriķis Muižnieks was forced to leave his post as University of Latvia rector not because he did something wrong, but only because JKP was not successful in replacing Normunds Mežviets as the head of the State Security Service.

''Chopping heads is a part of JKP's DNA,'' he said, calling on New Conservatives leader Jānis Bordāns to adopt a more cooperative stance.

''I call on Mr Bordāns and the JKP to start acting more like grownups and refrain from blackmailing the government in connection with next year's budget with impossible demands,'' he emphasized.
