During the visit President Begaj is due to meet President Rinkēvičs (including a press conference, below), Prime Minister Evika Siliņa and various other officials. He will also pay a visit to Albanian troops stationed at Camp Ādaži as part of NATO's presence in the country. President Begaj is himself a former military officer.
Since being elected in June, 2022, he has embarked on 34 official visits but it is his first official visit to Latvia as President. Just a few days ago he was accepting the credentials of Latvia's new ambassador to Tirana, Elita Gavele.
Bajram Begaj, is the 8th President of the Republic of Albania, from July 24, 2022. He was born in the city of Rrogozhina on March 20, 1967. Begaj completed medical studies at the University of Tirana and joined the ranks of the armed forces as a military doctor specializing in Gastro-Hepatology.
During a long military career of 32 years, he held several important positions, including as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
