Take note – story published 1 year ago

Luxembourg's head of state, Grand Duke Henri, is in Latvia for a state visit March 13 and 14.

A joint media statement with Latvian President Egils Levits was staged Monday morning, which you can watch below.

Grand Duke Henri was complimentary about how pleasant Rīga seemed, describing the combination of sun and snow as "an incredible sight" and said the political links between the two EU member states were "very good."

On the war in Ukraine, Grand Duke Henri said "We are very impressed by the way in which Latvia has actually taken in so many refugees from Ukraine" and added that all within the European Union and NATO shoud show solidarity. Luxembourg has itself taken in around 5,000 refugees from Ukraine, he added.

The Grand Duke quipped that as President Levits had spent nearly 15 years in Luxembourg, he was "nearly a Luxemburger".

No media questions were taken.
