Latvia has been our country for 106 years. I am sure that for each of us who are here today, our Latvia is near and dear.
I am sure that our ancestors, who sacrificed their lives for Latvia, would be happy about our joy. About the red and white flag that flies proudly in Latvia. In free, independent and strong Latvia. Our safety is our responsibility. And that's not just a slogan.
Soldiers, national guards, young guards!
Tomorrow marks 1,000 days since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine is fighting. We must continue to help it. We have to learn from Ukraine. Let's do it in good faith. Let's do it now! Because we must be ready to defend our country today and tomorrow. Always!
You have a great responsibility. Especially in front of the Latvian people and country. In times of peace, we have the opportunity to learn and improve. Admit your mistakes. Fix them. Learn from your own good and bad experiences. Prepare for any milestone in life. Learn together with our NATO allies how to protect your land and your people. How to resist the enemy.
Allied soldiers!
Your presence in Latvia has grown from a battle group to a brigade. I want to say a big thank you for your contribution today!
A safe Latvia means a safe Europe and a strong NATO. The security of our country is not only a national issue – it is an essential part of the security and stability of the entire alliance.
Border guards!
Threats and challenges along our eastern border require vigilance and preparedness. Therefore, we cannot relax either in training or in fulfilling our duties. It is our responsibility to strengthen the external and internal security of our country. We must be ready to respond to the unexpected and the unpredictable.
Rescuers, firefighters and policemen!
We all have something to protect. And all together – the freedom, independence and land of our country. But especially the people of Latvia. And we do. Because together we have strength.
Thank you to every soldier, national guard, policeman, responder, border guard and firefighter who has made Latvia stronger and safer this year. Thank you to the young guards and soldiers of the national defense service for their patriotism and strength.
Thank you to everyone who is still working today, both here in Rīga and throughout Latvia, so that we can celebrate without worrying about our safety.
Our strength is the strength of Latvia.
God bless Latvia!
