After a meeting at Rīga Castle, the presidents of the two EU member states made statements to the media.
Latvia's President Egils Levits recalled that last October, the Arajolos group meeting was held in Malta, in which he participated.
"It was a very meaningful meeting. We discussed common EU issues to better understand the situation today," said Levits, adding that "Today we discussed issues that we have in common within the EU. We look at the European Union very similarly."
"Together, we make a great intellectual contribution to the European Union," he said.
In terms of concrete issues, matters discussed included Russia's war in Ukraine, refugees, and migration issues, the Presidents said.
President Vella said that despite its longstanding position of neutrality, it fully supports Ukraine's right to defend itself.
"We have been neither silent nor complacent... Neutrality does not hinder us from condemning breaches of international law and violations of the principles of the United Nations charter, as has been the case in the Russian invasion of Ukraine," said President Vella.
