Two candidates have officially confirmed their presidency run: incumbent Egils Levits, backed by the New Unity and National Alliance coalition parties, and businessman Uldis Pīlēns, backed by the United List political association he founded. This does not mean there will not be other candidates.
In the survey of 1,005 Latvian citizens conducted in April 2023, 33.8% have indicated support for Pīlēns, whereas 14,5% for the incumbent, Levits.
Meanwhile, the largest proportion or 36% have indicated that they would like to see someone else as the president of the country. 15% could not answer.
The survey shows that Pīlēns' candidacy is supported by 85% of the United List's electorate, as well as 63% of Latvia First and 42% of Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) electorate.
Levits is supported by 55% of New Unity's potential electorate and40% of National Alliance's.
