The people who gather at the 'occupant monument' [in Uzvaras Park] don't understand which country and century they live in, said President Egils Levits in a video comment about the events unfolding Monday to Wednesday.

The President said that these people are 'physically in Latvia but mentally in a Russian world', with the way of thinking of the 20th and 19th centuries. He added that it is not just Latvia where such people live.

Levits said that all Latvians and patriots of Latvia, regardless of nationality, must 'loudly, clearly and directly' show and tell that they stand for the Constitution and the values of Latvia and Europe, that they stand with Ukraine, not Russia as an aggressor country.

The responsible officials and institutions must consider the events of this week and see that they do not happen again.
