The rules of procedure of the Saeima stipulates that the sessions of the Saeima are of two kinds: regular and extraordinary. There are three regular sessions per year: autumn, winter and spring (with deputies enjoying a lenghty break in the summer).
An extraordinary session of the Saeima can be convened between Saeima sessions if it is deemed necessary to deal with particularly urgent or serious matters.
