All Saeima deputies to be tested for coronavirus

Take note – story published 4 years ago

Jurijs Perevoščikovs, head of the Infectious Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC), told members of the press March 21 that all 100 Saeima members will be tested for the Covid-19 coronavirus after MP Artuss Kaimiņš tested positive for the virus.

At the same time, all persons who have been in contact with Kaimiņš must self-quarantine for the next 14 days and monitor their own health situation, reported the LETA newswire.

Given that the Kaimiņš has also been in contact with government officials and has attended Coalition Cooperation Council meetings, members of the government, including Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, also need to self-quarantine. These persons will also be checked by the SPKC

Perevoščikovs allowed the possibility that Kaimiņš may have been infected with the virus during a trip abroad at the beginning of March.

Earlier in the day Kaimiņš himself said he did not know the source of his infection. He went into self-quarantine after feeling unwell on March 17 but attended a Saeima sitting on March 16.
